Cróga’s Why Part 1

A few weeks ago we featured a guest blog post by Coach Charlie titled Start With Why.

If you haven’t given it a read, I highly suggest you do. It was well thought out/written and could change not only the way you CrossFit, but the way you live your life on a daily basis.

At the bottom of that blog post I promised a follow up post that included the Cróga CrossFit mission statement and core values to give you all a better idea of our ‘why’ as a gym and community.

Well, since I could go on forever about them, this is going to be the first half of that blog post, the Cróga mission statement. The core values blog post will follow in another week…

When Kelly and I made the decision to open Cróga CrossFit we knew that we needed to have a clear direction for what we were doing and why we were doing it, otherwise we might not have made it to where we are today with a bright future ahead.

After a few days of talking through what we really wanted to achieve at Cróga we came up with the mission statement:

“To build a family of athletes that constantly push each other to improve physically and mentally with a goal of becoming the best version of themselves possible.”

For those of you that have read a lot of my blog posts or who have been around Cróga for a couple years now, the verbiage of this mission statement is probably not surprising.

But we also hope that those that are newer to the gym, those that visit and those that are outsiders all still get this feeling when they read our blog posts or see our social content.

There are a few key elements that I think should stand out in this mission statement.

1. We are a family: We care about every one of our clients, we treat them as we would want to be treated and we accept them for who they are as an individual.

2. Everyone is an athlete: Just because you don’t deadlift 500 lbs or have a sub-3 minute Fran doesn’t mean you’re not an athlete. Every one that walks in the door to attend class is expressing their athleticism and we are all at different points in our journey, which should be accepted and celebrated. This is why we are so insistent on celebrating Personal Records (PRs), they are an expression of a new level of athleticism that you’ve achieved.

3. We should be improving physically and mentally to be the best version of ourselves: This is the most common underlying message in my blog posts and it’s something that I live by. My goal for each day is to always be improving to be the best version of myself possible. And Kelly and I wanted to pass this on to our members. We want you to help lift each other up and to be able to rely on each other to improve exponentially. In fact, we’re watching this happen on a daily basis right now during our Lifestyle Challenge. The Facebook group we created is filled with encouraging messages and helpful hints and photos of food to keep people motivated and improving daily.

I hope this gives you a little insight into the ‘why’ at Cróga CrossFit and also motivates you to continue your journey or to join our family of athletes if you’re still on the fence about Cróga.
