The CrossFit Games Open Season is right around the corner (Feb 26th – March 30th) and we are very excited to once again host our Friday Night Lights Event for 5 weeks to celebrate our fitness and community.
For those of you that do not know what The Open is, it is a worldwide CrossFit competition that is the first stage of qualifying for The CrossFit Games. The CrossFit Games are the competition that you see on ESPN each year in the fall where the “Fitness Man and Woman on Earth” are crowned.
Now, many of you might read that last paragraph and think “There’s no chance that’s going to be me, why would I sign up?”
This is where I want you to take a step back and not think about the championship of this competition, but to just think about yourself and our gym/community.
You are an important part of our community and no matter what your current level of fitness is, you are indeed an athlete.
The Open is your opportunity to express your fitness, be a competitor, celebrate our community and complete the same exact workout as hundreds of thousands of other CrossFitters around the world each week and then compare your results to their on an online leaderboard.
It is an opportunity to motivate yourself to get in the gym and train for something when you might just want to go home, sit on the couch and have a beer.
It is a reason to get to class a little early or stay a little late to work on that skill you’ve been wanting to master (double-unders, toes-to-bar, pull-ups, etc.), because you know that it’s going come up in one of The Open workouts.
It is an excuse to make some new friends, socialize with other like minded individuals that are members at our gym and cheer on your fellow athletes as they give the workouts everything they’ve got.
And, on top of all of this, CrossFit HQ has announced that this year there is going to be a Scaled Version of every workout, so no one is going to be able to use the excuse “I can’t do some of the movements” or “the weights required are too heavy”.
So, with all that being said, let’s get as many athletes signed up for The Open as possible!
We will be programming A LOT of Open type workouts and movements throughout February to continue to help you prepare for the competition and we will do anything/everything possible to help you improve in the areas needed to succeed when The Open workouts are upon us.

We will be following the same general format in terms of structure, heat time sign-up, judging, spectating, etc. as last year.
