OUR COACHES & STAFF

The coaches at Croga CrossFit come from diverse athletic backgrounds and experience, but they all have one thing in common, they care.

Their passion and commitment to helping you achieve your personal fitness goals is what separates us from other gyms. We know every member and their fitness goals, and strive to provide the training, education, support and motivation to meet these goals.

As a coaching staff, we are committed to pursuing excellence and pushing you to thrive, not just survive. We are invested in taking care of you and take pride in helping you to enjoy life. We are in the business of getting you prepared for any obstacle or task life may throw at you.

David Musgrave

From a very young age, it became apparent that Coach Dave loved all things sport and competition related. Maybe it was being the youngest of four or maybe it was being the only boy in the family. Whatever it was, it has created a fire inside of him that fuels his urge to constantly be striving for excellence through consistent and steady improvement.

His unwavering persistence and eternal optimism are his two greatest assets as a husband, father, coach, entrepreneur and athlete. They are the pillars he has stood on for as long as he can remember and are the reasons he is such a fantastic leader.

He grew up playing competitive soccer, loves snowboarding and enjoys traveling the world. Dave was thrown into the world of CrossFit in 2008, he has competed in the largest competitions in the CrossFit world and in 2017 he was the 18th Fittest Man in Northern California in The CrossFit Games Open, finishing 34th at the California Regional as an Individual Athlete.

Dave lives in San Jose, CA with his wife, his daughter, and their French Bulldog. When he is not coaching or training, you can usually find him reading a book, listening to a podcast, doing some online continuing education or having a chat with someone he thinks he can learn from. As a very curious, driven and dedicated individual, he like to say that he is a serial learner and has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

Over the years, Dave has experimented with a lot of different types of eating, but never really felt like he was in control or consistently making the correct food choices that would result in long term success until he found WAG and “flexible dieting”. Dave and his wife have both had significant success with improved body composition and performance since incorporating this healthier and more sustainable type of eating into their lives and it has inspired Dave to want to share with others and inspire them to improve their health through flexible dieting as well.

Kelly Musgrave

Kelly Musgrave can’t remember a time when she didn’t participate in team sports. Kelly has played competitive soccer and softball since she was four years old. She graduated cum laude in 3.5 years from San Jose State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations. She has dedicated her professional career to the tech public relations industry and is extremely proud of her nerdy tendencies. Kelly was introduced to CrossFit by David in 2010 and never looked back at her old globo gym ways. She constantly looks for ways to push her fitness: Races, triathlons, cycling and yoga. Kelly is a General CrossFit, Mobility and Rebelle Fitness coach. In 2012, Kelly created Rebelle Fitness, the women’s only strength and conditioning program at Croga CrossFit.

Cody Rubel

As the oldest of three brothers Coach Cody’s job growing up was to set the path for his younger brothers and to make sure he never let them get the best of him ;). He was a multi-sport athlete in High School, playing Football, Basketball and Golf, which gave him a well rounded view and background in fitness.

Along with his brother PJ, aka “The Brother’s Rubel”, he found CrossFit in 2011 and immediately fell in love with the challenge that each day presented and also how great it was having a supportive community of like minded athletes helping you along and cheering for you to be successful in your pursuit of improved fitness and health.

After a few years of using CrossFit for personal growth, Cody realized that he loved being a leader and helping those newer to CrossFit learn and reach their personal goals. He decided to pursue a certification in CrossFit and the rest is history.

He has been coaching full time for since 2014 and is extremely passionate about coaching athletes through workouts and teaching them new skills and techniques.

Brett Moore

Coach Brett was born and raised in San Jose and although he enjoys spending time outside and the outdoors, he has never really strayed far from home base (he’s lived within 1 mile of the house he was brought home to his whole life). He grew up in a house with 6 kids (five boys and one girl), which meant constant action and competition and even some controlled chaos (just like a good CrossFit class). He trained in Tae Kwon Do for 14 years (instructing for 13 of them), earned the rank of 5th-degree black belt and learned a lot about responsibility, focused training and discipline in the process. He’s also the kind of guy that loves to take on a challenge and learn a new skill, whether it’s juggling, archery, even Ballet or unicycling (his current new skill of choice). On top of all of this, he’s the kind of person that has a thirst for knowledge and loves learning new things so that he can help others achieve their goals. It’s no wonder coaching is the perfect occupation for him and we absolutely love that we’ve been able to add him to our staff here at Cróga!

Preston Rind

Preston has never failed to stand out physically. He was born at a weight of 10 lbs 10 oz and his growth didn’t slow as he ended middle school at a height of 6’1”. Once high school sports started, he realized he could not just rely on his natural size to excel. A combination of this and his need to catch his lanky physique up to his disproportionately large head (size 7 5/8 for reference) drove him to find his love for training.

As he got into the routine of resistance training in high school in preparation for football and baseball seasons, he soon realized he enjoyed the process of training more than he enjoyed the competition of sport. He is passionate about the benefit that lifting weights and training progressively can have on one’s physical and mental well-being. This passion led him to find CrossFit in March 2012 as a freshmen in college and he knew immediately this would be his avenue to share his passion with others.

Preston lives in Campbell, CA with his wife, Alexxa. Preston has been with us since his college days at Santa Clara University, where he earned his BS in Business-Finance. He currently works in sales for Xilinx Inc., in San Jose. When he is not working or coaching, he is usually lifting, running, walking or eating. His other hobbies include helping out at local craft brewery Hapa’s Brewing Company in Willow Glenn, using his AMC A-list to see as many movies as possible (he saw more than 60 movies in theaters in 2018!), and learning about various training methods. Though he sometimes spreads himself thin, his favorite way(s) to “relax” are traveling, going to country concerts, and trying all different style of beer with his wife.

Nutrition has always been a priority for Preston in his training. When Preston was told that he could start on the varsity football team as a junior at Los Gatos High School if he gained weight, he quickly went to work lifting and eating whenever possible resulting in putting on 40 lbs in 10 months. After a few years when he was done with organized sports and no longer needed to hold onto his 250lb bodyweight, he struggled to adjust to a more sustainable way of eating. It wouldn’t be until after college when Preston would find flexible dieting. Although Preston can still put down an unbelievable amount of food (ask him about some of his feats when you see him), flexible dieting has allowed him to find a balance of health, performance, and happiness. He has since been inspired to help others find a more sustainable approach to their nutrition.

Nick Ralston

Coach Nick brings a dynamic and well rounded background to Cróga CrossFit, as well as a clever mind and a unique sense of humor. He grew up in Los Altos Hills and is a graduate of St. Francis High School, attended The Naval Academy where he played rugby on a team that made the Final Four all four of his years there, joined the Marines after college and was a hand-to-hand combat and combat conditioning instructor (this is where he was introduced to CrossFit in 2006), and now works at Google on the Security and Resilience team, is President of Google’s Veterans Network, and remains in the Marine Corp Reserves.

Laura

Coach Laura is one of those people that has been an athlete her entire life. She’s played on teams or participated in tennis, cross country, basketball, track and field, soccer, gymnastics, softball and now considers her sport of choice, CrossFit. This well-rounded background of sports and the different skills required to excel at each of them allows Laura to connect with all our athletes and understand the different skills and weaknesses they’re working on. Not to mention, by being involved in so many different sports, she has been exposed to a lot of coaches and regularly draws on the many different styles and techniques they used to get the most out of their athletes to do the same in our gym on a daily basis.

Laura is originally from Rocklin, graduated from Sonoma State, works as a financial analyst for Apple, enjoys wine, BBQs, outdoor activities and when she gets a spare moment you’ll often find her upside down working on her handstand. Her favorite part about CrossFit and being a coach is how it has helped her build confidence in her own abilities and being able to pass along knowledge to help our athletes do the same.

Cróga Murph

Murph is our fierce guard dog that greets all visitors with a sniff, a few licks if he likes you and maybe a stare at his cookies to see if they’ll give him one. He’s a French Bulldog that was born April 19th, 2013 and he’s been at the gym nearly every day since we got him. He loves to say hello and goodbye to all our members throughout the day and snores his way through most WODs. We couldn’t ask for a better gym dog and we hope he brightens your day when you come to class.
