When I opened Facebook to check on a notification this morning I noticed that the University of Oregon was live streaming a press conference to introduce their new head football coach, Willie Taggart, to the media.
On a side note, for those of you that don’t know, my dad went to U of O and I grew up a Duck fan. For years that wasn’t very fun as the Ducks were the doormat of Pac-10 football, but in recent years it has turned out to be a great team follow and cheer for. I still hold my CU Buffaloes and Fresno State Bulldogs (the two colleges I attended) as my favorites, but as long as they’re not playing Oregon, I’m always cheering for a Duck win on Saturdays.
Now, back to the press conference…
The questions the media members had for the new coach were far and wide, from what’s the defense going to look like to recruiting to coaching staff to tradition, etc. and he answered them all with very thoughtful and straightforward responses.
In every answer Willie gave you could feel his enthusiasm and excitement for the opportunity to coach the Ducks.
And right at the end when time was up he gave one last little nugget of who he is and what he stands for and the words just instantly stuck with me.
The PR guy took the mic and said, “ok ladies and gentlemen, that’s all the time we have for today” and then Willie took the mic back and said “Thank you all very much, and have a great day…if you want to.”
Let me repeat those last 4 words for you in case you missed them “if you want to.”
Sorry for yelling at you, but this is HUGE.
The way he finished that interview is absolutely no accident and if you ask me, it’s absolutely brilliant.
How many people choose to be unhappy?
Most won’t admit it, but most people your run into that are unhappy choose to live their life on the negative side of the world.
And then they wonder why they’re annoyed or pissed off or not successful.
Last week I wrote about adopting an Attitude of Gratitude and this week is more of the same because I believe it’s the most important thing we can do to live the life that we deserve.
Be grateful for what you have.
Choose the positive side of life.
And make the decision to have a great day…
If you want to…
