You can ask any one of our members that comes to class in the evenings who the most dedicated to personal improvement is and they will all say Kristi. She regularly spends 15-30 minutes in the rig, on the ghd, or in the corner of the room working on at least one, if not three or four of her weaknesses. She is relentless in her pursuit of improvement and she has single handedly inspired more than a handful of our members to do “extra credit” with her after classes she attends, which has helped many in our gym improve right along side her. She is also a very friendly and outgoing individual that likes to have a good time and make new friends, which really helps bring a lot of our community events to life. We love having you has part of our gym and community, Kristi, keep up the hard work and keep having fun!
Here is a little Q&A with Kristi about her experiences here at Cróga CrossFit:
(Dave): When did you join Cróga?
(Kristi): I believe my first day was 4/1 – April Fool’s Day. I will never forget that day; 100 burpees for time. I was hoping it was an April fools joke, but no such luck.
(D): What were you doing before for fitness?
(K): Like a lot of people my fitness routine was pretty standard, predominantly running or going to 24 hour fitness. I wasn’t doing much strength training so I figured this would be a good way to start. Kind of throwing myself into the deep end of the pool.
(D): What improvements have you seen in the way you look, feel and perform?
(K): It has definitely been fun to see the progression in select movements, i.e. pull-ups and double unders. I still have a ton of room for improvement, but getting those movements down has been the motivation I need to take on new challenges. That’s the fun part of Crossfit, even when you have something down there is always another skill that needs work.
(D): What’s your favorite WOD?
(K): Anything bodyweight based. For a long time I never would have said any workout that involves pull ups, but after working on them after class for a few months they are definitely something that I feel confident and comfortable with.
(D): What’s your least favorite WOD?
(K): Thrusters or overhead squats. So basically 14.5 and 14.2/15.2 were not fun to see.
(D): What do you love about CrossFit?
(K): The constant variation in exercises/movements and of course the group work environment. The way I feel is that you can do Crossfit in any box that you want, but you will never be able to replicate the people that you do Crossfit with. Everyone at the gym, from the coaches to the athletes, are amazing. Encouragement is always there and it helps push me to do more than I thought I could.
(D): What’s been your favorite culinary discovery since joining Cróga?
(K): My favorite culinary discovery are the paleo desserts that I pick out and make Steven bake. The best food is the kind that you don’t have to prepare but you get to enjoy. Steven can make a mean paleo lava cake.
(D): What’s your biggest fitness goal for 2015?
(K): I definitely have my sights set on handstand pushups and at least one bar muscle-up. I still really have an extreme dislike for pistols but I make a point to work on them so my dislike won’t be so extreme.
(D): What words of advice do you have for new members or people considering joining Cróga CrossFit?
(K): The best piece of advice I would have for someone is to forget everything you have heard about Crossfit, good or bad, and just try it. Each person will have a unique experience with it and it is up to individual to form their own opinion. There are days that are going to be extremely tough and the workout will seem impossible but those are the days when you feel the best.
(D): 20,000 pull-up or 20,000 ball walls?
(K): Pull-ups without a doubt. I do not like wall balls and I have no plan on ever liking them.
(D): Anything to add that we didn’t touch on yet?
(K): Actually Steven had something he would like to add: “Even though I am happy that Kristi earned member of the month I want her to remember that it came several months after I earned it.”
