Mark joined Cróga back in July of 2013 and has been one of our most consistent members since the day he walked in the door. He has made huge strides in technique, strength, endurance, and mobility over the past couple years and it amazes me that it took us this long to select him as our Member of the Month, (sorry for the delay Mark).
The only reason I can think of that it took so long is that his consistent attendance and steady improvements are just something we’ve become accustomed to. His dedication never waivers, his effort is always consistent and he has become one hell of an athlete.
Mark is a Deputy for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, so functional fitness is essential to his success at work. And each week when he comes to class on Tuesday morning proud that he was able to run down and stop a bad guy from getting away because of all the hard work he’s done in the gym over the last two years is another week that we’re proud to be his coaches and to have him as part of our community.
Keep up the hard work in the gym, Mark, and keep running down those bad guys and keeping the people safe. This member of the month award has been a long time coming!
Here is a little Q&A with Kevin about his experiences here at Cróga:
(Dave): When did you join Cróga?
(Mark): July 2013
(D): What are you doing before for fitness?
(M): Daily trips to the local Globo Gym, stuck in the typical gym routine of weights and a treadmill.
(D): What improvements have you seen in the way you look, feel and perform?
(M): I quickly dropped several inches off of my waist requiring new pants and a smaller duty belt. I have strengthened my core and no longer suffer from low back pain due to the additional weight I carry around my waist for work. When I first started at Croga, I had to scale most of the WODs. I made Croga my morning routine going on three years and usually RX whatever Dave throws at us.
(D): What’s your favorite WOD?
(M): Murph…God bless our troops.
(D): What’s your least favorite WOD?
(M): CrossFit Open 14.5 killed me quick.
(D): What do you love about CrossFit?
(M): Constantly Varied Functional Movements Performed at Relatively High Intensity- I love working out and going to the gym. I realized how bored I was with the typical gym workout when I came to Croga.
(D): What’s been your favorite culinary discovery since joining Cróga?
(M): It’s always been red meat on the grill. I prefer a ribeye.
(D): What’s your biggest fitness goal for 2016?
(M): Beating Dave’s Fran time!
(D): What words of advice do you have for new members or people considering joining Cróga CrossFit?
(M): For the new members, the soreness eventually will go away. Don’t let that be an excuse for not showing up for the WOD. If you’re considering, stop talking about it and just join already.
(D): Pull Ups or bench presses?
(M): Follow me to the weight buffet, we’re hitting the bench!
(D): Anything to add that we didn’t touch on yet?
(M): I work a physically demanding job so taking my workouts to the next level was a necessity. My strength and cardio have been tested several times since I began at Croga. I thank Dave and all the coaches for kicking my butt in the gym so it will lessen the chances of it happening on the streets.
