Our Olympic Lifting class is an opportunity to improve your technique and maybe even set a few personal records (PRs) with the snatch, clean and jerk. This class also includes a sub-10-minute optional WOD for those looking to breathe hard and break a sweat during this class.
While this class is often a bit “scary” for some of our newer members before we convince them to just give it a try, we believe it is one of the best ways to speed up the learning curve of how to move a barbell and to increase body awareness.
The reason we feel so strongly about including the snatch and clean & jerk in our programming is because these movements help our athletes improve their strength, power, speed, coordination, agility, accuracy, balance, and mobility all at the same time!
Even if you’re brand new to CrossFit or barbells, our movement instruction that is built in to each one of these classes will help you learn quickly and when we start the lifting you can use as little as a 1/2 lb PVC pipe to do the lifting or as much as you’re comfortable with and the coach deems safe for your current level of fitness and quality of movement.
Our Olympic Lifting class takes a slightly different approach from our CrossFit Classes, but generally follows the same structure.
In order: we go through a proper general warm up, then mobility and then movement instruction with a PVC pipe for the lifts we’re going to be working on that day.
Then, all our athletes get out a barbell of their choice (15, 25, 35 or 45 lbs) and we drill the movements with the empty bars.
Finally, we do our Olympic Lifting, which is ALWAYS specific movements performed on a set interval to allow for proper rest and quality lifting.
All class times on Thursday except 4:45 pm Ignite.
